Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped over two million people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.
Empowering the world starts with living and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.
Oura’s engineering organization consists of talented developers distributed across the EU and US. For day-to-day feature work, our engineers are organized into smaller cross-functional feature squads or teams. Our squads have a great deal of autonomy and are responsible for the development and architecture of their features. Squads take full ownership of their code and handle everything from concepting, design and implementation to release, maintenance and bug fixes.
We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our SRE Squad. The team is responsible for governance and observability of the Oura Cloud Platform running on AWS infrastructure. We combine the power of the Oura Ring and the app with backend services and integrations to provide a data-rich and secure cloud platform. Our APIs power most Oura apps, services and machine learning components. Reliability and scalability of the cloud platform provide the technical foundation for our growth.
This is an on-site (Helsinki, Oulu) or remote Finland-based role. We are unable to provide relocation assistance for this role.
This is either a mid-level or senior position.
What you will do:
- Build new Infrastructure as Code, and migrate existing services to run using the same best practices
- Help feature squads maintain and migrate their services to run on the shared EKS-backed platform
- Develop libraries and templates for the Oura Cloud Platform and services running on it:
- Build tooling, observability and fault tolerance into cloud platform constructs
- Regularly engage with feature squads to incorporate improvements from their development projects into shared platform libraries and templates
- Produce high-quality documentation for your work
- As SRE team member, participate in running, monitoring and debugging issues within our cloud based production system
- Advance the team’s culture of operational excellence, maintaining our SLOs
- Test and release code in a fast and reliable manner using our deployment and dependency management tools. Contribute improvements to the tooling
- Ensure that our cloud platform adheres to security and compliance requirements
- Take part in on-call duty (optional, compensated)
We would love to have you on our team if you:
- Have architected and built data-intensive distributed systems in production environments
- Have a pragmatic can-do attitude and delivery-focused mindset, can handle tradeoffs between short-term goals and long-term tech debt
- Can design for scale and growth, prepare for user demand peaks, and build fault-tolerant, secure systems
- Have built robust deployment pipelines, and have experience in related tools like CDK
- Have solid programming skills in at least one of Typescript, Python or Rust
- Have strong experience running, monitoring and debugging production systems at scale on AWS (We run our services on AWS infrastructure, using key AWS technologies like EKS, DynamoDB, Aurora RDS, S3 and SQS)
- Have experience running and orchestrating containers in AWS using EKS, ECS and Fargate
- Have solid understanding of identity and access management on AWS
- Although not required, we appreciate a good understanding of database management
